AVAILABILITY OF PHYSICIAN SERVICES IN THE ROCHESTER AREA

Availability of Physician Services in the Rochester Area seeks to measure the present supply and attributes of physicians, determine whether there is sufficient physician capacity, and examine whether or not the area is supportive of physician's practice of medicine. The study serves as a follow-up to a series of like studies performed over the past two decades.

COMMUNITY HEALTH SCAN

The Community Health Scan documents the health status, the current availability of health and medical care services, trends in utilization of those services, and the relationships of service availability and utilization to health status in the nine-county Finger Lakes region. The scan endeavors to deliver data that is accurate, objective, and as comprehensive as possible.

THE IMPORTANCE OF ORAL HEALTH

Co-authored by the FLHSA and the S2AY Rural Health Network and published in June of 2009, The Importance of Oral Health examines oral health in Allegany, Cayuga, Chemung, Livingston, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, and Yates counties. Included in the report are needs assessments for each individual county, tables of dentists for each county, and recommendations.

Asking- and answering- Marvin Gaye's famous question, this report identifies the pressing health issues confronting the local African-American community, specifically exploring the link between cultural environment and behavior in health care. It is hoped this report spurs broad discussion within the African-American community, as well as making a collective call for community action.

ACUTE BED NEED TASK FORCE

Convened in April 2007, the Acute Bed Need Task Force was convened to determine how many beds are needed for medical, surgical, pediatric, intensive care, and physical rehabiliation patients in the Rochester area. The report makes a recommendation for the current hospital patient volume and a recommendation about how many beds are needed in Monroe County by 2015 to meet the needs of the Finger Lakes region.

CAPACITY AND USE OF HIGH TECH MEDICAL SERVICES IN UPSTATE NEW YORK

This report is the product of a collaboration between the FLHSA and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and provides an inventory of high technology health care services in the Upstate New York area including cardiac catheterization laboratories; CT, MRI, and PET scanners; lithotripters; megavoltage radiation therapy units; and surgical centers.
